A Caring Community
Each of us might have a personal relationship with God, but none of us has a private relationship with God. Christian faith is a shared faith... one that is meant to be lived out in the context of a committed community.
At First Baptist, we try to take seriously the role of being a community of fellow believers. One of the benefits of being a smaller congregation is that relationships are more easily formed. We are able to be involved in each others' lives. This allows us to serve as true priests to one another -- to carry burdens when they get too heavy... to celebrate joys when they can't be contained.
Community building occurs through the natural course of "being church" to one another. But we also have some intentional ways that we embody this truth. We share in various meals and gatherings through Sunday school classes. We join for times of blessing... such as whenever someone moves into a new home. And we come together for an annual All-Church Retreat in the Fall. It's all part of fellowship. |
